Often referred to as talk therapy, is a treatment approach for mental health conditions where individuals work with a licensed therapist to explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The goal is to help patients better understand their mental health challenges, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and improve emotional regulation and relationships.

Medication Management

A component of psychiatric care that involves prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting medications to help manage mental health conditions. The goal is to ensure patients receive the right medication, dosage, and treatment duration to effectively manage symptoms while minimizing side effects.

Psychiatric Evaluation for Bariatric Surgery

An assessment conducted to determine a patient’s readiness for weight-loss surgery. This evaluation ensures that the patient has realistic expectations, understands the lifestyle changes required, and can adhere to post-surgery guidelines. The assessment also identifies any underlying psychological or emotional conditions, such as depression, anxiety, or eating disorders, which could affect the success of the surgery.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

A neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can interfere with daily functioning or development. ADHD is commonly diagnosed in childhood but can also affect adults. In many cases adults with ADHD may not have been diagnosed in childhood because the condition was less understood or their symptoms were overlooked. In adulthood, ADHD can manifest as difficulty with focus, organization, time management, and impulsivity, which may affect work performance, relationships, and daily life.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD)

A mental health condition characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety. People with OCD may feel driven to perform these rituals repeatedly, even if they know the behaviors are irrational or excessive.

Borderline Personality (BPD)

A mental health condition characterized by intense emotional instability, impulsive behavior, and difficulty in maintaining relationships. People with BPD often experience rapid mood swings, fear of abandonment, and have a distorted self-image. They may also engage in risky behaviors and struggle with feelings of emptiness or anger.

Schizophrenia

A chronic mental health disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. People with schizophrenia may experience symptoms such as hallucinations (hearing or seeing things that aren’t there), delusions (false beliefs), disorganized thinking, and impaired social functioning. These symptoms can lead to difficulties in daily activities and relationships.

Anxiety

A natural stress response often characterized by feelings of worry, nervousness, or fear about future events or situations. While occasional anxiety is normal, persistent or overwhelming anxiety may indicate an anxiety disorder.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

A mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, such as violence, natural disasters, accidents, or combat. People with PTSD may experience intense flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
